Lebanon’s Golden Age and Independence from France 1943 -1960
Lebanon’s independence from France in 1943 coincided with the rise of post-war abstract Modernism in the West which also spurred a shift in Lebanese art.
Artists who had been trying to break away from classical training found a new outlet for their expression through Cubism, Dadaism, and Surrealism, which formed the basis of Lebanese art through the 20st century.
