Abstract Expressionism and Surrealism 1960-1975
With art and artists being recognized as national treasures, the 1960s witnessed a boom in the artworld’s ecosystem with the opening of art galleries, a rising art market, and the democratization of art through public exhibitions such as the Salon d’Automne and Salon du Printemps, hosted by the UNESCO and the Nicolas Ibrahim Sursock Museum.
Artists such as Said Akl, Nadia Saikali, Amine El Bacha, Aref el Rayess, Elie Kanaan, Rafic Charaf, Helen Khal, and Juliana Seraphim dominated this era by truly pushing the boundaries of 20th-century Modern Art.
